Help on correct Procedure Much appreciated
Hi All
Great to finally be a member and licence holder I have just purchased a licence and was wondering what is the correct procedure for the following. 1. I want to install some themes. 2 I want to install some mods 3 I want to import my phpb2 forum using impex. I understand impex only works on 3.6.0 so do i download 3.6.0 first and then install the themes and mods using those themes and mods available up to 3.6.0. Do i then import phpbb2 using impex Once i have done the above do i then upgrade to the latest vb release If this is correct will everything be compatible (i.e the themes and mods) and finally once all that is done is the latest version backward compatible with prior releases of themes and mods. Thank you in anticipation Jeff |

Hi Nexialys
Thanks for your reply, i have read that but it doesn't say anywhere about the correct procedure for installing mods etc. It does say indeed the same as supprt said to me that 3rd party mods are not supported and I understand that, but just thought you guys experienced in vb would be able to offer some guidance. One of the reasons I have bought vb is because my current board on phpbb2 is heavily modded and every time I want to change anything I have to manually alter all the code for all the different themes etc. I didn't want to make this mistake again so that is why I sought advise here. Not knowing much about vb I don't want to do it the wrong way and end up in the same situation. Thanks anyway for replying Jeff |

Its as simple as locating the modification from the mod section, and then each one comes with instructions.

Most modifications are installed the same way, but some occasionally will vary. They usually require importing a product (very straightforward), uploading files and/or making template edits. The procedure for installing a style is very similar, you import the style XML and upload the files.
ImpEx will work on any version of the 3.6 branch (ie. 3.6.0, 3.6.1, 3.6.2, etc.). |

Jeff, a great forum to bookmark is vBulletin Articles A lot of it may be over your head at the moment, but there is a LOT of information in there that will help you out.
Most modifications have instructions in the thread or in a Read Me text file. Usually you would go to Products & Plugins > Product Manager and on the bottom it says Import Product. That is the easiest type. Some of them require Template Edits - Admin CP > Styles & Templates Make sure the modification you choose to install is for your version of vbulletin - don't pick a Mod in the vB3.0 section for your 3.6.8 board. I would suggest starting with an 'easy' mod first to get the hang of it. Good luck and have fun! |
