How to quickly force user offline?
I need to ban a member (at least temporarily) but in the past I've noted that a ban is not effective unless they log off and attempt to log back on. This member will never log out but is in a crisis situation right now and I need to force her off the forum. I do not want to delete her account, but I cannot control what she's doing right now, which is pretty nasty.
Can this be done? Need to know ASAP. Thanks. |

I guess you can IP ban them. ... when they choose to browse another page after the IP ban, they will locked down.

a ban should take effect immediately wether the users is logged in when it happens or not. do you have some sort of custom modification preventing this from acting as normal.
as a alternative you can add this user to the tachy goes conventry feature or move them into a usergroup with no permissions. |

Something must be misconfigured--I've never been able to get a ban to work immediately. I actually have a "stealth ban" mode we created and I prefer to use so they don't see the "scarlet letters" with their user name. My users have mental health issues so I need to approach this sort of thing carefully.
I'll try the tachy goes conventry. Haven't done that before--would you mind telling me where I'd find it? Thanks so much for this advice, it's very helpful! |

AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> User Banning Options
It'll add that person to everyone's ignore list and no one will see his posts till you've got things sorted out. |
