"Does this work with version __"...
Has any thought ever been given to all the questions that come across the forums on a daily basis like "Will this MOD work with v3.6.6"?? I ask, because that type of question seems to be a substantial volume of message traffic.
I just wondered if there couldn't be a way for an author to be able to declare a RANGE of versions of vBulletin that his MOD will function with? I've seen some with vB version: 3.6.x, but even then the same type questions appear in the thread. Seems a simple statement like v3.6.0 - 3.6.6 might help out, or perhaps some way for the author to select which versions it works with when posting a MOD. Lastly, maybe I'm just in the dark. Can one assume if a MOD declares vB version: v3.6.8 that it will work with all minor versions up to that one?(i.e. 3.6.0 - 3.6.8) |

We have considered this before and came to the conclusion that will probably not help much and often can even cause more confusion.
Some of the considerations: - An author can already post a simple text line in his modification stating on which version(s) it will work. Hardly any does this, so from an author P.O.V. there does not seem to be much interest in supplying this info. - It will still depend on the author to update the list for each new vB version released. Very doubtfull all authors will keep updating their threads, and "old information" can be more confusing then "no information". - Regardless if the information is available, people won't read and still ask the same quesion over and over again (like you already noticed). Often 1 member will post "i have it working on version X", only to have the next post from another member to be "Will this work on version X?". About your last question: Will depend on the modification and the changes done in that version of vB. |

A number of ways have been considered, but none have stood out enough to warrent the work involved (how would we deal with all existing mods)

I can think of at least one of mine where the 3.6.8 version will not work prior to 3.6.4. Unfortunately you cannot assume the other way either, one that says 3.6.3 will not necessarily work on 3.6.8. |

Understand, thanxx for the replies. I didn't think I could be so lucky, so I'll just stay on pins & needles before considering any new MODs to my older version of vB. And as you both denoted, there's no quick-n-simple fix to the issue. Nice to know that you-all have contemplated it though, seems like you're always a step ahead of the game.
