Few questions
Hey guys, thinking about getting VB and have a few questions.
First, I am going to get a year licence, then down the line decide if it's worth going full or abandoning the site depending on what happens, would I have to then pay the full $160 to switch? Second, when buying VB do they support paypal? As my members will be donating for the licence hence why our target is $85 for now, would I be able to pay straight from my paypal or would I have to wait who knows how long to transfer it to my bank account? Third, my site is focused on gaming from downloads (allowing users to upload anything from a few kb to 1gb+ if 1gb will be possible without timeouts...) to reviews, links, tutorials, gallery etc etc. Are all these mods available (free, for now)? I have found VBAdvanced CMS which seems to sort of fit my needs for a front page and news, DownloadsII but no idea if it would like 1gb+ files or has a status bar for large uploads. For reviews/tutorials I love GARS but the developer is MIA, VBAdvanced Dynamics is ok but doesn't really suit my needs as far as I can tell and both these systems cost money which I won't have for the beginning of my site. Found 2 gallery's but both are not free, it's funny, for free forums there's barely anything that costs, but for VB pretty much every mod or style I need costs money ._. Thanks EDIT: One more thing, if on the VB site I change currency from $ to £, it ends up costing £48 which is $98 instead of $85, can't I just leave it on $ and pay like that from the UK? Think I might leave the buying up to an American admin. |

1. You can "step-up" from a leased license to an owned license within the first 2 (or 3, I can't remember) months by paying the difference. After that, you need to pay the full $160.
2. Yes, you can pay with PayPal. 3. You can upload attachments within posts, this is a stock feature. 4. No PHP-based application will have an upload statusbar. The reason being is that PHP does not even support this feature. 5. Many modifications are free. Some are not. This is mainly because the quality is higher than modifications for free forum software. 6. You can leave it in US Dollars and let PayPal do the conversion. |

The reason for the difference in price is because UK users now have to pay VAT (17.5%) on top of the price

Thanks for the replies. Just one thing for now stopping me from switching.
The main thing stopping me is lack of a free review/tutorials system, and waiting for GARS could be useless if the owner never comes back. I want users to be able to submit their own reviews for approval, and tutorials with different "types" for every game they will be posted about. So they can all be bundled into one place and filtered out by type instead of having hundreds of categories. Thanks EDIT: A constant 800+ people on and no replies for over 6 hours, need to know if I can tell users to bother donating or not, just need review system, but not something very simple and featureless. Just thought, is there a way to just name forums for reviews/tutorials, and just pull the latest ones into an html or php file or something for VBACMS to use as a content page? With some form of layout, is something like this already done? Or some page to index every thread in a forum like this? :/ |
