Just set the "can View Forum" setting to No for the unregistered usergroup.

i think he means having a login box on the index of the main site not the forum.. i think?.. could be wrong.

That doesn't always seem to work. :-( Sometimes a user is redirected and no cookie is set (though I am forcing it with a hidden (instead of a checkbox)). Also do you know if I can give it some parameters so it redirects them to their profile or something?
