Post order
An option to specify in a thread that a reply in it will go to the first and replace it. The first post goes to the second etc. Is this already there or can someone make this work?

What would be some of the reasons for using this hack?
trying to determine if it's something I would actually use before I tried delving into the code |

Some want to report daily events. The new (today) messages are placed as first in the same thread so older ones go down. Maybe this is already in vb but i can't find it.

So you mean, like how VB list threads in chronological order of the post from top to bottom now.
Being able to set it so that a thread lists in reverse order? |

Yes something like that, new posts in thread always on top

Hmm well let's see..
If you go into your user cp and then edit options, you have four options. Linear - oldest first Linear - newest first Hybrid Threaded So user's can set that option if they wished. You wanting to basically have a box you can check when your creating a thread or editting one that if checked would override a user's individual settings and define the thread to list in linear - newest first order? The only thing that concerns me is some of those users that like hybrids might get annoyed with their preferences being taken over |

Yes i saw that option but aren't those for thread order, oldest or newest on top? This has to do with post in a thread, not the thread itself. In the forum where this is set, all new posts in a specific thread (other threads in that forum don't be affected by it) will appear as first post in that thread. The older first post, the one previous to this message, will go down as second etc.

Ohhhhhhhhh!
Glad I asked So let's say a thread had 5 posts in it. And 2 were new posts. You'd want those 2 to show first, and then the remaining 3 to be ordered normally below that? like (Viewing thread) -newest post- -second newest post- -technically the first post of the thread- -technically the second post of the thread- -technically the third post of the thread- That sounds it would really confuse new users. Even just doing the newest post at the top. It would chronologically fubar the thread =/ Couldn't you just click the link for "view newest post" or make that link more visible. Heck you could even make clicking on a thread in the forumdisplay go to the newest thread would seem a better option to me. |

I am looking for a way to "reverse chronological order posts" in some of my forums as well.
On my board I have a section where members post reviews on local entertainment. For example I'd have one long thread for "Bob's Bar and Grill" which could contain 24 posts of reviews. In that thread, I want the most recent post to appear first and oldest post last for both members and non registered members. The rest of my forums would be displayed normally. |
