Can anyone forsee any problems with this...
Wondering if anyone can tell me whether this is ok to do...
I want to change the filenames showthread.php and forumdisplay.php to something else, eg, mypage.php and mysection.php Would it be feasible to find and replace every instance of those names to those I want, in the vB php files, and then find and replace the same in the templates? I've actually done this on a clean install and everything is working fine, but I'm just wondering if I haven't thought of something and that it might 'break'? I would have thought that as every instance is changed, theoretically at least it shoud be 'ok' (not sure how this would work on a exisiting site/db tho). What do you guys (and gals) think? |

yes, it could work... but it could also be a pain in the butt to have to do this every time vB updates and you want to upgrade, patch, whatever. also, you have to think about any hacks you'll be installing. lots of trouble IMO, but yes, it can be done.

Yes, I see no reason it wouldn't work, but why put yourself through such pain !!!

Thanks both :-)
I don't mind doing a search and replace everytime I install a hack or update the site (to be honest I don't use many public hacks - Pauls 'who logged in' and Logicians 'WTemplates' to name 2). I'm doing it because I use showthread for various pages such as articles/blogs/news etc and it just doesn't look right when the url says 'showthread'. Wish me luck! I will probably need it :knockedout: |
