vBulletin Radio 2.2.x is illegal
I was browsing the Mod forum because I'm thinking of switching to vBulletin. But I can't post anywhere else but here. I felt it was extremely important to let people know that you cannot stream copyrighted songs from your website or server without having the appropriate licenses and paying for the royalties. You need to have ASCAP, BMI and SESAC public performance licenses for musical compositions as well as a SoundExchange public performance license for sound recordings. You will be in a world of financial hurt if any of these organizations catch you streaming music from your site without their license.
The following sites provide info on obtaining licenses so you can stream music from your site legally. http://bmi.com/licensing/webcaster/index.asp http://www.ascap.com/weblicense/ http://www.sesac.com/licensing/licensing1.asp http://www.soundexchange.com/licensing101.html They are quite expensive. I used to be a webcaster but had to stop because I couldn't afford it. The cheapest way for an individual to stream music is to go through a site like http://www.live365.com where they have blanket licenses and members pay a monthly fee without having to worry about all the logging requirements and such. I just don't want anyone to get in trouble with these people. |
