frontpage modification

hello folks,

i am looking for some sort of special modification to the frontpage. Something like the one on cgtalk.com. There is a kind of award system that the best pics will be shown, as thumb?s, on the frontpage. Mods can "plug" the thumbs to the frontpage and it is a direct link to the post of the user who showed that pic. Is something like that already out there? Searched a lot but don?t found a hack like that.

another thing i would like to have... The User posts pics in the thread. But he can also put a thumb of the pic in front of the thread. similar to that: http://www.cgtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=133

AND the last one for today.

Is it possible to have different icons for different categories? (the read/unread icons in the board view). can i assign different iconsets to categories or/and maybe subforums?

Hope there are hacks like that out there. or at least similar.
