Integration of vBulletin into existing community site
I have searched these forums and haven't found anyone with a similar problem to the one I am facing. I want to integrate vbulletin 3 into an existing membership system. I am very keen to use vbulletin rather than any other forum software, but the task looks rather daunting. The existing system already has a membership system and a concept similar to vb's usergroups. I am hoping to add functionality to the existing site to interface with vbulletin's database, making as few if any changes to the actual vbulletin code, thus simplfying upgrades.
The problem can be simply explained , although unfortunately not necessarily simply done. 1. Create a vb cookie when the user signs into the main site, to create a single signon 2. Automatically add new users into vb for each new site user. 3. Automatically delete users from vb for a site user that leaves the main site. 4. Automatically create a private forum for each new group, this may involve creating a usergroup for each site grouping. Users can be members of many different groups so it will need to support multiple groups for each user. 5. Automatically delete the forum if the site group is deleted. 6. Import links to the most recent posts from the relevant forum into the page for that site group. This is a PHP driven page and I have seen some posts about this so I think this may be the easiest of our requirements. Once completed the vb forums would be administered almost entirely via the site with little if any actions required from the forum administrator. Has anyone ever done anything like this, or have any idea where I should look in vbulletin to make this possible. Any help or advice with this project very much appreciated. Cheers webspinner |
