Different postbit display for first post in thread.

Does anyone have any idea how I could display the regular postbit for the first post in a thread, and the legacy postbit for all posts to follow?

This is for picture posting forums. The new postbit allows more horizontal space, whilst the legacy postbit is better for text, precisely because its NOT as wide.
