Images for forum area names

I have been playing around and can't quite seem to get anything together that works. I have created images to be the titles of the top-level subforums. More specifically, I would like to use images of text for the titles on the front page. As an example of what I mean, on the front page of vb.org there are sections titled "vBulletin.org", "Code Modifications vB3", "Code Modifications vB2", "General Codings/Questions", "Miscellanous", and "vBulletin Network". On my forum, I'd like to have graphics appear instead of text.

I wasn't entirely sure which conditional to use. Would the best way be to use a conditional? (if forumid=X then img src="X" and so on). Appreciate any tips or perhaps someone has a snippet of code that they've already done. Thanks.
