Migrating SMF to vBulletin - What's the Best Way?
Good day,
My forum is on SMF 2.0.11 and I have recently purchased the vBulletin license and wish to switch over to vBulletin. Yes, I did my research and have found enough information to get along. However, please read to the end, have a few specific questions that I need help with before I go ahead and switch over. So, as far as I have researched and read, have come to these threads .. The Impex sub-forum here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=267 Zachery's Impex guide: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=320362 Zachery's Github: https://github.com/vBZachery/vbimpex vBulletin manual: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/i...rsion=40202604 Manual for 4.2.3 Patch Level 2: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/i...rsion=40202604 I hope I'm on the right track .. I understand that I cannot upgrade from SMF 2.0.11 to VB 5 Connect directly. So I have to first install the VB4 and then upgrade. Once upgraded and no errors, should upgrade to VB5 connect. Questions: 1. Should I install the VB Forum 4.x or should I install the VB Forum 4.x Publishing Suite before I initiate the import? 2. My current SMF forum is at MySite.com/forum/ ('forum' folder is the root for SMF installation). Will there be any problems if I install the VB 4.x on the root of the domain name? Will there be any conflicts since MySite.com/forum/ is the root of SMF installation. However, if I install VB 4.x on the root, will the VB installation have any conflict with the forum folder? For example, MySite.com/forum/ would show the SMF installation or would it show the VB forum installation? Sorry, I'm trying hard to explain but not sure if I'm doing a good job at putting my thoughts to words. Another example of what I'm trying to say ... If I have Wordpress installation at the root of the domain and the SMF/VB forum in the "forum" folder, then Mysite.com/forum/ gets a conflict. Wordpress tries to take over the folder displaying it as part of the Wordpress installation. That's the kind of conflict I am talking about. Would appreciate if anyone can answer my questions and show me the correct way of importing SMF to vBulletin. Thanks and cheers! |
