forumdisplay thread ratings change

I am running vB3.8, and I feel a little dumb, but for the life of me I cannot find where it is determined in forumdisplay.php what to show next to the thread title as the thread's rating. I found in showthread.php the $thread['rating'] = line where it did a round. I added some if statements after this to have it so the ratings can show as half-stars, which I added images for. But I can't see where in forumdisplay.php I can similarly alter what it defines as the thread's rating so it can determine which image to display. Can someone help me? Thanks.
