Akamai for attachments

We are signing up with Akamai for their DSA product.

I wanted to find out how attachments work in vbulletin.

On our forum attachments are only download-able by members - so they have to login. We also use vbseo to make pretty url like:

http://www.XXXX.com/attachments/1186...32044-abcd.pdf

Is there any way to cache the content on the Akamai servers - since we are requiring a login how do we do this?

1. Make all attachments publicly downloadable?
2. Make all urls with /attachment/ cacheable when the userid cookie is present.

How exactly does vbulletin serve the attachments? Is there some sort of header sent to specify the location of the file? Or does it somehow stream the file content in some other way?

I am unable to understand how the content can be cached if the actual place where the attachment is stored is someplace else - in the automatically generated folders by vbulletin?

Can anyone please kindly guide us?
