Email verification not working properly

Ok, so I have received emails from users that are trying to confirm their accounts with my forum, but they dont receive a confirmation email and if they do, it takes a longgggggggg time... I opened an account with my forum, it been 20 minutes and still nothing.. How can I fix this?
