Join Requests -- Changing Primary Usergroup

Hey all.

I have forum members requesting a certain level of member access to the forums. When I go to approve them for their requested access level, it only adds them to the usergroup as a secondary, and not a primary, thereby not having the proper display group and they still look like regular registered members.

Is there a way, other than coding a hook plugin, to get the users to have their primary usergroup be the group that they are requesting access for, upon approval by myself, without having to do it manually for each user.
