change background-shoutboxes

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but how do you change the background colour in a shoutbox.

I have a forum www.behindthegoals.com and have installed a chatbox, but I need the backgrounds to all be at least a medium shade so that the members can use all the colours and more important that they can be read in each of the skins.

Also the colour of the name of the chatters needs changing to.

I gather these are in the css somewhere, but I have been changing all sorts of variables in the last few days and am tearing my hair out.
