Listing total posts # under first post

I want to separate the first post from the others by display the total number of replies/posts underneath the first post. I found the conditional statement for checking if the post is the first post, but the "<vb:raw totalposts>" does not work in the postbit template.

Do I have to register a new variable or is there another way around this?
