Chmod directories?

Chmod directories?

I recently moved host and followed this process

1. close down forum
2. export/import db
3. ftp all files from one host to another.

The new host has all the directories @ 755

What should the permissions be? are they cache/temp/images folders that need a different chmod?

I know I'm missing something as my social group thumbnails have all disappeared..
