new VB user trying to add sidebar

Hi,

I know that there's a sidebar in the default theme but I wanted to add one to a custom theme I've found that I really like: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=215519

I've got the sidebar plugin which appears to allow you to manage a sidebar but I cant see how to add one

Can anyone help?
