Navbar Header and Custom Templates

To be different, i've added the navbar on my forum to the very top, but due to $navbar not working so high up there is alot of information in the header template.

Is there any way tyo get $navbar working up in the header?

Also would custom templates work in the header, if so what is the $ to include them in normal VB templates?
