MySQL Error on avatar upload

Hi there;

Whenever I upload a marginally large avatar, I get a Database Error:

MySQL Error : Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes
Error Number : 1153

How would I increase the "max_allowed_packet"?
