How to add image to parts of page?

Hi,

I've done a ton of searches but can't really find a decent explanation about something that is probably extremely simple. I hope you can help.

I want to add image(s) to different parts of the page.
For example, how would I go about adding an image to:

1. The header - behind the logo. Is there a way to add an image that would fit perfectly with the rest of the page. The forums will be fluid, so I guess its hould be able to span just like the rest of the page.

2. The body.

3. The page background.

Sorry for such a ridiculous question, and if you have a specific tutorial that may help, please let me know.
