allow a user to put themselves into tachy...
At my site we use the tachy goes to coventry feature as something we call 'emergency hide'. Instead of a punishment, it's a tool for the members to use. (if they act up we just put them on moderated)
Ours is a women's support forum, where women are posting and talking in a 'self-help' way, so it's not always just casual posts. Some of them are very personal and private. Our site is set to private, meaning you can't read posts unless you are logged in, and so the content stays out of the search engines. We have frequent cases where a user will panic, because a spouse, an ex, a boss, a co-worker, or a friend will stumble onto the site, and they don't want so and so reading their posts. Yes, a user should not post anything publicly on the Internet that they wouldn't want anyone else to read. Yes, we tell the users this. Yet they do anyway. So the member panics, and wants all their posts temporarily hidden while they figure out what to do, or so they can edit or delete posts they need to, or talk with the person who found them there, before coming back out of 'emergency hide'. The procedure we use now is they request 'emergency hide' and we put them in it manually until the crisis is past. It would be nice if there was an option in the user cp where a user could put all their posts into 'emergency hide' (i.e. tachy goes to coventry) in cases of people finding their stuff when they didn't expect them to. It also helps when people get pissed off, and want to leave the site. We put their posts into emergency hide for them, and frequently the fight they had with whoever blows over, so then they come back and want their posts visible again. It helps save their posts in case they were going to delete them in a fit of anger, and then regret it later. I know it isnt a widely needed feature, just something I'd like you to keep in mind for the future.. |
