Default Crafty Way To Disable A Dropdown

Ok I need some ideas on how some of you coders would handle this situation. If theres even a way!

I have the mood hack installed, however I customized it so that the dropdown displays in a users postbit, for easy selection right? (see screenshot). However, because its wrapped in form tags, it collides with the form tags in showthread template. Meaning I have problems as an Admin using the inline functions. Sometimes when I check the box on a post and hit merge, or whatever it does NOTHING. So this is the issue.

Here is the code that is a problem in showthread template:
PHP Code:
<if condition="$show['inlinemod']">
$spacer_close
<form action="inlinemod.php" method="post" id="inlinemodform">
$spacer_open
</if>
The code thats in postbit_legacy is this:

PHP Code:
            <if condition="$post[userid] == $bbuserinfo[userid]">
            <
div class="info" align="center">
              <
form action="usercp.php" method="post" id="moodform">
                  <
input type="hidden" name="s" value="$session[sessionhash]/>
                  <
input type="hidden" name="do" value="newmood" />
                  <
select name="mood" onchange="this.form.submit();">
                      <
option value="" <if condition="empty($bbuserinfo[field36])">selected</if>></option>

$show[qmcmood]
                  </
select>
              </
form></div></if>
So anyways, I was thinking of a cool creative way to disable this above text on the fly. If you look at the screenshot, I want a button next to the dropdown, that when clicked, will disable the above code. (mood code) for an admin or mod that clicks that button. Just so they can use the inline stuff for the time being.

Yes I can remove the code entirely and save myself the hassle, but I like it in the postbit, and I like to think of alternative ways to get around problems, and not just the easy way out.

So what would I use here? Obviously not a user profile custom field, but something else. Something Im not thinking about. Thanks guys!
