Outgoing email

I'm looking for either a program, or advice on how to use/change the feature to send outgoing email to let someone (a friend) know about a thread - to something that looks like just sending an outgoing email, by either taking out the link to the thread, and or adding the link to the PM interface.
I want my users to be able to recieve incoming email and PM's (already available) as well as send outgoing email's - either using the above method or a whole new set up.
