Reviving a vB2 request: Slashdotesque community-based rating and filtering

Way back when, someone thought of integrating a slashdot-like rating system with vBulletin. This was before the days of fancy plugin hooks and a built in reputation system. I came across this thread after mulling over the idea myself and searching for mention of slashdot on these forums:

Essentially, I'm wondering about the feasibility of overhauling (or expanding upon) the existing reputation system to be based off the moderatation/metamoderation model and karma system implemented on slashdot.org, whether others have considered it, and how it might be best implemented on a vBulletin forum. It'd be phenominal to tie it in with a filtering system that would show posts based on their score and classification.
