can i change the color of the thread with a new post

i want tochange the colors of the links on my board. like if a post is made in that thread i want it to be orange until i click on it or mark the forum read. so they can tell what link has a new post casue with my template when you post it shows the link bold but the same color. and you cant really tell that theres a new post unless you see the little icon on the left.
