Noir BBS - Surf in pure black and white like when you click "log out"

I love the underused feature of vb3 that makes the screen go black and white when you click "log out".

It's not a CSS type hack, as it even effects avatars and the logo...

How does it work?

And would it be possible to make it a skin selection or option? Surfing in black and white would be very retro IMO.
