newbie alert... need hlp finding headline hack

I've been wandering around vb.org trying to find a hack that will let me call headlines (thread topics) into a non-vb page.

I want something like what appears down the left side of the vblite homepage. Just something that shows recent topics, but that can be called into my main index page (NON-VB) without too much trouble.

I don't want a hack that requires some major db hack or something from which I won't recover because I don't know what I'm doing!!

Is there some simple java or php include statement or whatever that I could throw on my page to accomplish this?

Bear with me... I'm just learning and have no clue. Thanks!!
