Unregistered/guest welcome message

I found where to change the text, and I added the text i wanted.

However, it does NOT stay in the paragraphs I originally wrote it in.
When I save it and go to my site to look at it, it has been made into one paragraph.

Is there a way to change this?

I am using version 3.8.7
