Is there a way to prevent link juice fissuring upon changing of the forum name
Suppose I create a forum:
myforum.com/forumdisplay.php?570-Why-i-love-pizza Then, a year later, I change my mind on the forum name, and make: myforum.com/forumdisplay.php?570-Why-i-love-pepperoni-pizza Now the problem is, all of the backlinks I got last year, will be to the old page: e.g.: myforum.com/forumdisplay.php?570-Why-i-love-pizza Moreover, this page will still render--because vBulletin ignores everything after the 570. However, this is bad. Because it will cause my link juice to fissure between the two renderings of the URL. Because, since both URL's resolve to something, in Google's mind, these are two different pages on my website. So, is there something I can setup to make this page: myforum.com/forumdisplay.php?570-Why-i-love-pizza always 301 redirect to my new page: myforum.com/forumdisplay.php?570-Why-i-love-pepperoni-pizza ideas? I have 3,000 forums and don't want to do it manually. I could just put a canonical script in the header. And that will save the linkjuice. But I would also like the browser to redirect the user (automatically) to the appropriate URL as well. thanks! |
