Case Sensitive

I have an assumption that one of the reasons why new users frequently cannot log in, is they forget the case sensitivity of their user name and password. It seems quite obvious to me that unless users know in advance that their user names and password is case sensitive and based on how they registered, they are very likely to struggle with log in. This issue can be quite frustrating for a new user to log in after repeated attempt .

My question, is it possible to remove the case sensitive status for user names and passwords ?. If not, are there any suggestions how this issue is generally managed ?
