Customizable Dictionary
Hello,
I'm currently running a forum that is G-Rated. It is very hard to keep people from saying whatever they please with the word filter that vBulletin provides. I think it would be nice to have a modification similar to that of what a kid-friendly online world (MMO) would use. Admins could add in the words that CAN be said, not words that are blocked out. It takes a long time to filter out everything that is bad. Using this system, users could not add a space, period, or any other punctuation mark to make words bypass the word filter. Once you add a space or punctuation mark that word now becomes two separate words, which most likely won't be in the full dictionary. Example: Say "friend" was blocked out. The user can currently type "fri.end" or "fri end" to bypass the filter. With this new version, the user would not be able to type "fri.end" because it's not a word that is in the dictionary. Adding onto this idea: It would be awesome to have a box where you can check of plural, past tense, and other forms of words. So you would just have to type in "game" and you could select it to allow "gaming, gamed, games, ..." but typing all of them in different forms is okay too. Another idea for this would be: Instead of having "###" show up as the word not allowed, how about making it so the user cannot post until they go back and change it. I hope someone else likes this idea, as I know there are more kid friendly vBulletin forums out there. Thanks, slinkyman |
