Best shoutbox type mod in terms of least strain on speed

Hi,

I recently converted my forum from an .asp board to vBulletin and am running v3.6.7.

On my previous board I had a "chatterbox" mod, but it affected the speed of the site so much that I'm leary of installing one now.

I don't know much about .php or Ajax. Can someone give me some suggestions on what to look for (or specific recommendations) in a chat box that won't slow down the speed of my forums?
