Commercial vB Templates and their yearly "upgrades"
Hi all,
I've purchased some commercial templates over the years for my various vB licenses. I'm always happy with the quality of the product, but wonder about the business model of the various template designers (I'll withhold names). I think the fee of $30, which most templates go for is fair. I don't at all mind paying a yearly maintenance fee as well. But I have a "pet peeve" about the "renewel process." For example, a template costs $30. To "renew" the license costs $30. I might be a tad picky, but in reality, I am buying a new license each time. Thanks god vB doesn't call for a repurchase of the forum software each year. As an incentive for customers to "stay" with their template purchases, why not offer a bit of a discount to "renew" the license? say $10 or even $5? As I said, I realize that creating and maintaining a high quality template takes time. But surely in a recent case, where my license ran out, but I wanted to stay current with my template, and being X.X.1 version off was a bit out of hand to repay $30. Hmm... I'm I alone in this way of thinking? And I'll like to ask, any commercial templates that don't work on the above business model? Regards, Carlos |
