Follow up on "It's all about trust" thread.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=115640
The thread linked above raised a few issues and I am sure everyone is interested in the end result of all of this. So my post does not get buried or un-seen I have closed the original thread and started this one. As of today all products that included code that automatically clicked the install button have had said code removed from them. This was fixed from the vBulletin.org end (I blocked these requests) about a month back but some products still had it lingering around. We will not be releasing a list of coder's names that were using this because I don't think we need to drag people's names through the mud. Everyone of them has been quick to comply with this new policy, and I thank them for their understanding. Again the code that was removed in no way put anyone's board in danger, it simply clicked the install button in the thread the modification was downloaded from. But this issue has opened our eyes to the bigger picture and we simply wanted to make the community aware that there will always be the possibility that something that is harmful may slip through. We will put things in place like a verification system for modifications. Which will basically mean after someone on the staff has a look through the code a modification will be marked as 'verified'. I do not want to go too much into detail about this at the moment as the coding team is still working on it (planning stages), when we nail out all the details we'll post another status update. I hope this clears up things for everyone. If you still have questions let me hear them. |
