Well, with over 200 downloads and 32 problem free install's, I though it time to take this out of the beta hacks forum (note, there are no changes to the file in the beta forum, so no need to re-download if you already have the hack installed).
I put this together originally as a walkthrough for an admin friend, and thought someone might find it useful. Althouth technically, my contribution is a couple of simple template edits, it does contain hacks posted previously. Like I said, it's a combination of 2 previously relesed hacks (both credited fully). One by Firefly (avatar hack) and one by MrLister (since your last visit). It combines both of these hacks into a welcome panel at the top of the BB, just like the one here and on a few other sites. I'm pretty much a newbie to vB hacking, and struggled to put this together myself (couldn't find any instructions/hacks etc), but I think I've done an OK job. Maybe this will save a few headaches to others like myself Anyway, here's a pic to illustrate the hack/edit (or whatever it is ) You can see a working verion of this hack here: The Genome Collective Thanks to Firefly and MrLister for providing the PHP hacks in this err, whatever (BTW, if this is in the wrong forum, please (mods) feel free to move it) Happy Christmas everyone. here it is: edit: updated version number to 2.2.6 because it works There are no changes to the files - it's not a new release. Thanks. /edit Show Your Support

I have still some problems with the Kier's AaF hack installed, but only when I use a standard - NOT custom - avatar.
Actually it's within a category (another hack.... ) but it isn't the problem. I can't see the image in the welcome panel. I guess of course it depends on the function the Welcome Panel calls : getavatarurl() (you can see more here, about), but same I would put here my experience about this hard join. Thanks a lot. Bye |

i want to implement this hack, but a fair share of our users have a specific forum bookmarked and don't always come in through the welcome page. so, ideally, i'd like it to pop at the user's point of entry rather than embedding it in a page.
before i spend a lot of time spinning my wheels for nothing, i thought i'd ask you more experienced types if you knew of anything that might cause a problem or prevent me from doing it that way. whaddaya think? appreciate the help, - kestrel |

I would like to place much of the welcome panel in my header so it appears on all pages. What codes do I need to change or add in order to do this?

Hack the index.php file just the same, in fact do everything just the same except -
When it comes to editing the forumhome template, instead of inserting the ..... <-- welcomepanel --> ***** **** **** some code *** **** ***** </--welcomepanel --> Put that in you header instead. Of course, you will need to make sure the layout works, it's not something I would want to do myself, but it should work. It might look a bit wierd though. You'll have to play around with the tables to get it to look OK. |

Ha... it was Sinecure who pointed the way I also did the same thing to my homeindex.php (for your news hack!) which can be seen at http://abudokan.com/forums/homeindex.php . I use an htaccess redirect and actually have that as my homepage.

there is still a problem with the "count threads & posts" - function: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...332#post209332

Yeah, I know it counts *ALL* the posts, including those in private forums. I'm not sure what to do about it. Making it so that admins can easily add forum ID's to an exclude function, would add a ton of code to an otherwise simple hack. Not sure if it's worth it.
