Major Additions - Video-Directory Remixed

This modification is based on the Video-Directory modification by Survivor and vBPoint.org.
His mod is NOT dead, its still alive and kicking; but he has informed me that he just doesn't have the time to maintain it and give support. So until he is able to work on it agian; I've been doing a series of updates.

What is this mod?

This mod adds a fully featured and fully integrated video directory archive to your forums. Users can add their favorite videos from their favorite video service to the directory. I only support a few select hosters; but the hoster scripting is XML base, so any user can create their own scripts for any number of hosting services. The old MyVideo and Sevenload scripts from Survivor's version will still work, but they wont pull in Keyword/Tagging information, nor the video length time codes.

• Keyword profiles for tag cloud.
• Built in comment system for videos.
• Search function for titles and descriptions.
• RSS feed of videos.

Installation Procedure:

1. Upload all files in the "upload" directory to your forum root.
2. CHMOD /videothumbnails/* and /includes/videoserviceapi to 777.
3. Import the product "product-videodirectory.xml" in your Product Manager.
4. Follow the on screen instructions to configure your video hoster settings.
5. Refresh your administration control panel to see the new navigation links.

NOTES:
vBulletin 3.7.0 instituted a new avatar-thumbnail system. There is a high probability that you are unaware of this new system and may have failed to setup your vBulletin to make use of it. Make sure that a directory called /thumbs is located in your avatar directory and CHMOD it to 777. Then go into Maintenance > Update Counters and run the Rebuild Custom Avatar Thumbnails process.

Upgrade Procedure:

1. Upload all files in the "upload" directory to your forum root.
2. Take note of the information stored in Limits of Videos > General Settings.
3. Import the product "product-videodirectory.xml" in your Product Manager.
4. Re-establish your previous Limits settings in Videos > General Settings.
5. Re-import ALL of your hosters and settings in Videos > Manage hosters.
   • You MUST remember to re-import your hosters after upgrading.

NOTES:
You may lose your category dataman when you upgrade. If no categories are listed after an upgrade, you will be required to rebuild your category dataman. Its very easy to rebuild it if you need to. Simply go into Videos > Manage categories, select ANY category and hit [Edit], then click [Save]. Your category dataman will automatically be rebuilt.

Hi,

great mod, will you keep this alive towards vb4? no use in it for me to make my members happy with something that will pass thats why i generally choose payed addons.. But this one is really cool so thats why i am asking.

How come this mod uses so many queries?

video.php?do=viewcategory&categoryid=10 (1 video) takes 9 queries
video.php?do=viewcategory&categoryid=12 (17 videos) takes 25 queries (!?)

you'd think the amount of shown videos in a category would be 'query independant'? For example: when I set the amount of videos to be shown in the vbadvance video directory module from 3 to (for example) 6 videos, it has no influence on the amount of queries for that page. Shouldn't it be cached or something?

When many people browse through the video directory at a particular moment, it really stresses the server.

Just install the microstats mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ght=microstats). Although it says it's for vb3.6, it still works like a charm on vb3.8

The extra query for each video has to do with the taglist. For each video bit, it has to query the tags on that video. The amoutn of shown videos in the category, IS query independant. However, the scan for tags for each video is not; the amount of tags on each video however, is query independant as well. The reason why this extra query per video is not in the vbadvanced/forumhome mod is because they dont query the tags.

so when tags are disabled showing the list of videos in a category should use much, much queries?

The list of videos in a category is pretty much static untill a new video is added to that category. So why not cache the page? Pulling the data from the database each and everytime someone browse through the videos seems overkill to me.

Perhaps you can contact a developer like thegeek. With his GARS mod, you get to see an icon, description and keywords in the listing of articles (pretty much the same idea as your great mod, but with articles instead of videos), and with his listing just about 9 queries are run (and that's when over 20 articles/icons/descriptions/keywords/authors are shown).
