Default vBa or vBportal?

I was going to use vBa but I have checked out vBportal and it appears far superior in features. For instance I can include modules within the forums.

Is there any reason why I should choose vBa over vBportal?(apart from vBportal being $25)

Anyone who has experienced both portals care to comment?

Thanks.

I bought vbportal ages go due to the many excellent features. However, my site now runs vbadvanced... Why?... You try skinning vbportal and just see how far you get!! It was a nightmare and there are very few skins available that work with it. They need to make vbportal way way easier to skin. However, if your just running the default vb skin then go for vbportal, as it is a very good front end.

Honestly if you are looking for an easy and efficient portal software, vBindex is alot more useful than either vBa or vBportal - It, like vBa is free, but is easier to install, and has many of the same features as vBa

I liked VBA best.....by far.

If you have your forums installed already and you go with vbportal you have to change everything so that vbportal is in the root directory below your forums... not to mention that it is very complex and I do not believe it is search engine friendly...

Just my opinion but I would take VBA over VBPortal any day..... For one thing.. VBA is free!!!! It is simple to install and simple to learn...

Well overall I am pretty dissapointed with the portals available. I'm keeping my eye on this thread http://forums.postnuke.com/index.php...ight=vbulletin

and hopefully something will eventuate. There are a few cms which share the users, but thats still pretty lame and would hardly call that integration.
I should probably just pay someone to do it custom for me.

http://www.annointed.net/Forums.htm is a good example of proper integration and here is a thread that talks about the journey http://forums.postnuke.com/index.php...ight=vbulletin

and heres an even better example http://www.tutorials.de/forum.html

That has now been done, with the latest version of vbPortal you do not need to edit any vb3 files during install, converting a vb3 only style to work with vbPortal is now very simple.

vbPortal is working with outside style designers like ExtremePixels.com to provide pre-configured style to vbPortal members. These styles are then maintained by vbPortal staff ensuring end user have nothing to do but load it up

I actually decided to use vbportal and am quite impressed. For now its more than adequete, and the support has been great. It took a while to get used to the admin interface but its a very flexible system. I was happy by the fact that it did not hack into my vB instalation which will allow me to upgrade more easily to the next vB version than other software. Check my results www.*EDITED*.com

the thing i prefeer vba above vportal is that its FREE, you dont have to spend more money to get your site done. ANd as its free, there are more users and people coding. I dont see as much hacks for vportal as vba has.
