Introduction:
vB Pager is a text-based instant messaging system over your community between members. Users can exchange short & quick messages amongst each other. Unlike the regular private messaging system, the paged user is guaranteed to read your message & reply to it (if you choose this option) instantly & easily.

• Features:
  • Uses AJAX Technology to Send pager messages / Get pager messages / Add & Remove a member to buddy list / Add & Remove a member from Ignore list. (No Refresh Required)
• Main Features:
  • vB Pager Buddy List ?pop-up? window is used to keep track of the friends you wish to interact with. By going to your "vB Pager Buddies", you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online and offline, and be able to send them a pager message. Adding people to your buddy list also allow you to send pager messages to multiple forum members at the same time. You may add any member of the forums to your buddy list by clicking the icon next to their names in the vB Pager Online Members Page or Clicking the Manage Buddies Link to add/remove members into your list.
  • vB Pager Ignore List ?pop-up? window lists are used for those people who's messages you wish not recieve from.
  • Received Pager Messages are Draggable Inline Popups.
  • Sending a message opens up a small window where you can type in message to be sent.
  • Optional Anonymity: you can choose to hide your username when paging another user on the forum, & define which Usergroup can utilize this option.
  • The window comes in with a built-in character counter to enable the user to keep track of the characters typed.
  • Logs of all incoming and outgoing pager messages ?Inbox/Sent Items? member has, can be viewed and deleted.
  • Download Stored Messages as XML, CSV, TXT.
  • Members can turn the vB Pager Off anytime they wish not to receive pager messages, and they can select the option to receive pager messages from those who are in their Pager Buddy List only.

How to Install:

• Simply download the zip file, Unzip it to a directory on your computer and follow the steps from the README.txt
• Remember to Change vB Pager Pemrissions from the Usergroup Manager.
• Make sure that you got your forum url filled in the Help Site Name / URL / Contact Details under your vBulletin Options. See this post
• Make sure that you got your forum directory name filled in the Forum Directory Name under your vB Pager Options.
• Please Read This Post befor asking for help.

How to Uninstall:

• Simply remove all uploaded files, revert your edited templates, and uninstall vB Pager Product from the Manage Products under the Plugin System in your ADMINCP.

Known Issues:

• Permissions are not being inherited from secondary usergroups.

Try disabling the polling feature in your AdminCP or set the time to a higher value (like 30 seconds).

I am having some browsers crash when loading a page when they have messages available; so I have to remove it.

Most of it has to do with the way messages are deleted.

When you prune messages, or your members delete messages, it just deletes the message ID (not the entire message)

So when the hourly cleanup script runs, it shifts through every message, for every user, and see's if it has a message ID. If it doesn't, it deletes the message.

The longer you go without pruning, the harder this hourly check is on your CPU. I've had over 3,000,000 rows examined by the cleanup query, all because I had a few thousand pager messages either in the system or deleted. This happened with a 3000 member board with about 50 people online at a time. This will shut ANY cpu down until the query finally times out... I had it hit my server so hard one time that I had to call the datacenter to request a reboot.

The last version of this hacks includes an option to automaticly delete messages that have been read. If you enable this it helps with the load problems because the cleanup script is not trying to do too much after your big 'prunes'.

i set it to auto delete the messages, and i've got the pager refresh set to 10 seconds, and i'm not having any CPU problems with it at all

I'm running vbPortal, and I have installed this mod - but it doesn't seem to be working on my portal pages, particularly the home page. In order for anyone to see the pager messages, they have to be browsing the forum section.

Other than that, it works fine. But is there a way to get it to work on the home page in vbportal? Also - it's not showing up in the vbportal "quick links". Is this normal?

i wanted to ask if the problem with popup in the Opera browser is already solved.
because want to use some more member very gladly more pager however not without opera to do. and if popup in the lower part the page is not always developed is sense of the thing.

Ok I don't know if anyone else is having this problem but.....

I have 4 different styles on my forum. And if I send a page to someone who is using a different style than I am, they don't get the page. Same vise versa.. if they send me a page, I don't receive it either.

Is there some sort of bug that prevents this from working when members are using different styles??

There's another issue with this as well....

I have the userpermissions set so that only my admins and staff are supposed to be able to use the pager. NO members are to be able to use it.
However they can still see the icon in the post bit and when they click on it, it DOES open the pager window. So evidently, the hack isn't taking on those usergroup permissions either.

any fixes for this??

welp, since the developer for this hack hasn't bothered to to reply to this thread since the middle of April, and he's been online twice this month but didn't drop in here...... I'm uninstalling this hack.
There are way too many problems with it, and since it's a nicety but not a necessity, it's just not worth it to pull my hair out over it, lol

When/if it gets updated/fixed I may look at it again
