Note - The mod author has been unreachable for some time, but the vbulletin.org community has stepped up to provide a number of individual fixes over the years. ForceHSS, Hippy, and Seven Skins have all combined many of these fixes into product files.

That said so you don't need to apply a dozen + small fixes yourself you should consider downloading one of the updated packages below:

- Original File Specs: post_thanks_7_82.zip (26.4 KB, 24844 downloads) - Original file removed, replaced with patched files including search fix (some admins noticed hackers attempting to use outdated code to exploit search in attempt to gain administrator password or similar).
- There are five total patched versions available, some with and without the search fix - I've replaced the main file with the patched versions... please be sure to download and install the correct version, the main mod post contains links to additional information and patched files!
- If Abe1 returns he can request these packages be removed.


About this hack:
One of the biggest problems on forums as you may know is 'posts boosting'. There are users who LOVE to say 'thanks' when ever they can. How can it hurt? Their post count goes up, they have nothing to loose.

There are also users who really like to express their thanks to post but don't like posting a post that looks like they're post boosting.

Then comes the moderators who have to delete people's thanks yous so a thread can look readable with out the thanks yous thrown around.

Finally comes the posters of these useful posts. They have no idea how many people really likes their posts if only some people say 'thanks'.

What this hack does is fix ALL these problems - except those users who like post boosting. This places a button called 'thanks.' When a user clicks on it, it places his username in a box right under the post saying that so-and-so says 'thanks' for the post. Every-one who clicks is placed in one box.

By giving your users the extra feature, you forum will look allot nice and organized. It is a guaranteed liking by ALL the members of your forum.

Hmmm, not sure then, as that file has been edited by possibly hundreds of users without issues.

If you are using vb4.2.2 then max version vb4.2 will not allow the hack to work use vb4.2.x then it will work for all versions of vb4.2

ForceHSS thank you as always, and thank you as well Simon, I really appreciate it! I 'think' my problem has something to do with the configuration settings of Notepad++ as I just downloaded it yesterday due to the fact that I couldn't find the standard Notepad on my computer any longer. Just a little while ago I just went to Start->Run->Notepad and there it was, but now same [B]EXACT[B] problem appears:

XML Error: Reserved XML Name at Line 1

so it has to be in the settings and I don't see much for Settings in Standard Notepad but in Notepad++ there's Encoding Options and Style Configurator Options and I feel it has to be some setting in there because when I paste it, it all just pastes up against the wall. It's it rows, BUT it's NOT in the same format which I believe to called Rich Text.

I'm no longer a complete idiot to this as I was when I first spoke with ForceHSS, but this right here has definitely got me stumped! Any help from anyone would be so much appreciated.

When you tried with Notepad, did you try it on a fresh copy of the XML, you would need to redownload the zip, and try it like that.

TBH, you can completely remove the line:

		<dependency dependencytype="vbulletin" minversion="4.0.0 beta 4" maxversion="4.1.0 alpha 1" />

So in the XML it will look like this:

	<dependencies>
	</dependencies>

Again, thank you for the Super Fast reply!! I just redownloaded both Notepad++ and the xml file and it still says XML Error: Reserved XML Name at Line 1

Whereas when I open it in Internet Explorer, which [B]IS NOT[B] what I use as a browser by the way, it reads and is formatted like this for 1-10:

It appears to me thank Line 1 is blank and pushed down but if I do that then it [B]follows[B] with the same error stating that it's on Line 2. I know the look as if they're the same, but it, I believe is not getting pushed over the same exact way as in Internet Explorer cause it Notepad++ it's all aligned up against the wall.......


Instead of replying to this post I just edited to say that the Formatting appears to look the same here, but it didn't post the same way I copied it, meaning they weren't all aligned like they are here...if that even matters


And when I go to open the edited file from my computer it states:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

ALL the aforementioned is SOLVED!! Apparently when you Copy it from IE and Paste it in Notepad++ it takes away the Auto Indent, so I saved it and then opened the from inside of Notepad++. 11 hours later this semi-idiot got it!! Thanks ozzy47, ForceHSS, and Simon Lloyd as I really appreciated your help/input!!!

Yeah you should always just open the file from the editor, not c/p it into the editor from the browser. Glad you got it sorted.
