vBulletin CMS Widgets - United-Forum Nivo Slider Widget

Based on the Nivo Slider - all credit for slider awesomeness goes to them.
vB4 implementation goes to me.


What it is:
A slider for cms articles, it gets the articles via database, uses (if possible) the previewimage there and resizes it to slider size *update 1.1.0 cropping function included.

Installation

• upload all files (attached zip file) in the folder where you do need them - this has to be the same folder you will set via $slider_img_filepath (see picture)

If you change $maxwidth and $maxheight you need to edit the nivo-slider_uf_theme.css file, here:

Width and height have to be the same value in your php-widget and in the css file.

In additon to these settings i also included a "value/relevance function". Meaning the slider doesn't show your latest 5 articles, but instead weights them based on age and comments.

As older an article is the less likely it will show up in the slider.
More comments make it more likely.

This behaviour can be easily changed. I didn't include an if condition cause every board has different needs and i don't know whats best for you.
In addition conditions like "articles just from this section - or these sections, or this category, with a minimum of 10 posts" can be included via one single if condition. Again, i don't know what your board needs or what your category names are.

You can also modify the preview length (more words, less words), the preview style (color fontsize, fontweight .... Again different forums different needs. It's highly customizable.

Same goes for different slider themes - a lot is possible, even thumbnails - again this is part of the nivo slider and not the vb4 implementation.

Hi, I am having a little trouble with the slider. I'm on vb 4.2.1. I have checked to make sure the folder image path is right and it is. Its doing this when I use the widget, the images aren't showing and it looks well dumb. Take a look

EDIT: Nevermind found the problem! The file path was wrong actual. I put it has public_html/slider/ because I copied it from the ftp like the tutorial, but it was only supposed to be slider/

Ok, i'm having another problem. The images were working and everything, then I took it out of my layout for a minute put it back in and now when you refresh the page one of the images shows up for about a second and then fades and so the backgrounds black and just a caption shows up. The fall back image doesn't work and the img path is correct, so I have no clue what to do if anyone could help please.

How can i make this work with forums not articles?

I have an interesting issue with this mod. I followed the steps to make it load only from selected sections, which for the time being is a single section with a single test article. When set to read the main page articles the images loaded without issue. The image on the test article however does not. I get the below error when debug is on. I have verified the attachment is viewable as a guest by using a browser that is not signed in and have checked the size limits in the attachment manager and can't determine the issue. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
