VB eIRC chat intergration hack 1.0 Details »» | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
VERSION 2.0 - UPDATED FOR VB3.0.7
Now Even Easier To Install!!! - Enjoy NOTE: VERSION 2 is for VBulleting 3.0.7, VERSION 1 is for 2.2.x PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT VERSION... 1 x new template 1 x file upload 1 x template edit (Optional I guess, you could put the link to your chatroom anywhere you like....) P.S. You will need to add the templete to each style your site uses and edit to suit... --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a very very easy hack to install and must be one of the easiest and best free ways to add chat to your forums. This hack uses Eirc java applets to connect to World IRC servers. There is no need to sign and compile Eirc yourself or even host it or a irc server, simply follow these instructions and you will have FREE, full, IRC chat on your forums in under 2 minutes... For a demo, checkout the chat running here at vbullettin.org ( https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/chat.php? ) as it uses the same java applets and basicly is the same as this hack... Once you have installed the hack pop into #austech and say hello... Thanks & Enjoy... Although Version 1.0 for VB2.2.x is still working and also still available, I DO NOT offer support for it... Ok, I did everything step by step, but still can't seem to make it work on any other server. I even tried running it on my server, but all I get is "can't resolve...." whatever server name I try. I looked at the source on the example you posted, and it's running on the localhost, right? That's not working for me either.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? |

I really feel stupid for asking this, but how do you set up your own chat room and how do you pick a server to do it on? I've never even attempted anything like this before and I know nothing about IRC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not much on irc either, so don't feel stupid. Registering a channel on a server is relatively easy, but this applet thing is confusing the hell out of me.
Normally, it'd be something like this...on say dalnet: /chanserv info [#channelname] - This will check to be sure the channel name you want to register is not already registered. For example: /chanserv info #newbies. If ChanServ returns information on the channelname, it is already registered and you need to choose another one. /join #channelname - This will create the channel you want to register. For example: /join #whatever. /chanserv register [#channelname] [password] [description] - This will register your channelname with the selected password and a description of what the channel is about. The description is not important, but must be included in the command. For example: /chanserv register #whatever password Chat Room Description. But you have to do alot more (obviously) to get EIRC to run on another server. :ermm: |

Thank you very much. Now, where do I run that and what do I run it with? (I told you I knew nothing whatsoever about this. )

That's what you'd type into mIRC or any other irc client. If you log into dalnet, those commands will work. They vary from server to server though. It's best to view the command list on the server's homepage....if you want to join a different one.

Build the source. If you are on *Nix go to shell and cd into the eirc source directory. then run build.pl ./build.pl If you are on windows open the build.bat file and at the top add the path to java there are also 3 other .bat files that you will need to that to. After you do that just double click build.bat. This will create a dir called build. Go into it and grab the 2 applets it created and then sign them. If that doesn't do it then get back to me and I'll send you my applet which I know works. Sorry I missed you when you stopped into our channel. I could have helped you if I was there. |

I am running W2K. I used the jars that where already there. I figured they should be the right ones, since I dnlded the Windoze zip. Hell, I don't know. I'm lost now. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
It seems that whatever server you connect to has to have the jars on their localhost. But I guess, if this is done right, I should be able to direct the applet to use my jar files and still use a different server value? Is that how this is supposed to work? Maybe I should try your files and see if that works, since you seem to know what you're doing. LOL :cross-eyed: Are you running an irc server? I guess you have to be to have your own server value, eh? I don't really care to run my own irc, if I don't have to. Let me know if I have the concept all wrong. My brain is starting to hurt. :lick: [edit] Well, I actually dnlded your jar files (by entering the path to them in my browser), and I still get the same thing....so I don't think it's the files. |

I have been at this for 4 hours.
I cannot make a permanent room. It keeps saying I am not logged in. I tried asking in the help bit of IRC but no one answers. Am I stupid or missing something? |
