DESCRIPTION:
This mod will insert a special EZbounce link into the header of all emails sent from your forums. In the event any email bounces back to you, you simply click the EZbounce link and the Ezbounce script launches, which will modify the bouncing members settings to prevent further bouncing emails. It will also send that member a PM asking them to update their email address.

This modification is known to work with versions as high as 3.8.x

FEATURES:
  • Will not modify settings for Admins, Supermods, or Moderators if their email bounces
  • (if turned on) Bouncing member is moved to whatever usergroup you set in AdminCP EZbounce Settings
  • Updates bouncing member's "Receive Email from Administrators" setting to NO
  • Updates bouncing member's "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages" setting to NO
  • Updates bouncing member's "Receive Email from Other Members" setting to NO
  • Remove email notification for all of bouncing member's subscribed THREADS
  • Remove email notification for all of bouncing member's subscribed FORUMS
  • Turns on Popup Notification of new Private Messages for bouncing member
  • PM is sent to Member notifying them of bounced email & asking them to update email address
  • (if turned on) When member updates & confirms their new email, they are returned to original usergroup.

Now, the next time you send a newsletter from your AdminCP, (so long as you only send emails to members whom have "Receive Email From Administrators" set to "Yes") you will no longer receive a bounced email from this member (because they are no longer being sent).

And also, if you created a new usergroup such as "Bounced Members" and set this usergroupid in this hack's settings, now the members that have bounced can be pruned, sent reminder emails, whateveryou want to do with them!

WHAT IF A MEMBER DECIDED TO CLICK ON THE LINK IN THE EMAIL HEADER?
Most email clients don't show the email's headers by default, however in the event a member is slick enough to view their header and they click on this mysterious link, they will simply receive a no permission message since they're unallowed to log in to the AdminCP.

HOW TO VIEW FULL EMAIL HEADERS:
You might need to configure your email client to view full email headers in order to see the EzBounce link. There's detailed instructions on how to do this for the most popular email clients here.

I uninstalled the 3.5 version of vBouncer. I never had the time to configure and get it working anyway.

So, now I do have the time. I logged off and back on and installed vBouncer 3.6. Going into my admincp, I saw a vBouncer Admin section at the bottom of my Admin navigation tree. I went in and set the URL and usergroup to the user with bad email addresses and Saved. Then I clicked on the vBouncer Diagnostics option, and I got an error saying that .../admincp/vbouncer.php was missing. Since I couldn't find any php template by that name in my forums directory, I figured the old version didn't completely uninstall so I uninstalled vBouncer 3.6, logged off, and logged on and installed the 3.6 version again.

This time, the vBouncer section doesn't show in the left Admincp navigation tree at all. I can still put in the URL and usergroup bying expanding the vBulletin Options dropdown but have no access to any other Bouncer options.

What do I do?

Well I think you have to find out where you got your mod, because this one is not called vbouncer but EZ-bounce.

Anyway it won't show up in the Admincp navigation tree at all, after a good installation the options should be somewhere in the last section of the normal vBulletin options in the Admincp.

You can only setup 4 things.
1.) url
2.) update members usergroup yes/no
3.) move bouncing members to x usergroupid
4.) Show EZ Bounce link in email message body yes/no

That's all and it's enough too, it works, so you're correct there are no other bouncer options.

OK, then there is no vBouncer options - I guess my install is ok then! Only having a EZ Bounce section under the vBulletin Options is normal behavior.

Thank!

I just installed and send a junk email to a bogus email account. The headers on the bounce message did not have the x-EZbouncer line in it.

I have verified that the product is installed and insured that the exbounce.php is in my admin directory.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at (SERVER ADDRESS REMOVED).
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

vBouncer is an entirely different hack than this one, it does different things and handles bounced email in different ways than this hack, EZbounced Email Management...

It's most likely your email client. There's a feature in the vbulletin options to display the EZbounce urls in the body of the bounced email message instead of the headers. You can turn this feature on for future bouncing emails if your email client isn't displaying the bounced emails in the header.

What email client do you use? I tried with Horde and with Outlook2007 and neither showed the x-EXbounce line in it.

If I turn on the option for the link in the body of the message does the link show in ALL emails from the the forum or in just the body of the bounced email?

If you turn on the feature to show the link in the body, it will show in all emails sent from the forum, but only admins with "can admin settings" permission will be able to run the ezbounce.php script.

The way the script works is it includes the link in all emails sent from the forums. The only way the link wouldn't be in your bouncing emails is if:
A) the email was not sent by the forums
B) the email was sent from your forums before the hack was installed
C) your email client isn't showing the entire header, refer to your client's documentation on displaying the full email headers.
D) another hack you have installed is conflicting with this one. Disable all other plugins/hacks and reinstall this one.

It's been successfully tested on outlook, hotmail, yahoo, eudora, smartermail, aol, by myself, I'm sure others who have installed it are using other clients as well.

Not sure what the problem is for you, what version of vBulletin are you running? Perhaps your bounced emails are landing in your junk mailbox? Make sure your forum's main email address (the one which sends out all outbound email) is on your email client's whitelist.

Turn off all other hacks and see if you still have same problem.
