Facebook Connect - Allow your users to login with their Facebook account (for 3.8)
Developer Last Online: Dec 2011
Staff Note: Moved to Graveyard - this will never work now that the old style facebook authentication is no longer available.
Facebook Connect This add-on allows your guests and existing users to login with their Facebook account through Facebook Connect. There is NO NEED to upgrade or reinstall if you already installed this mod for 3.7 Upgrade to 2.0.6 so that users with the new super long IDs will be able to login. This mod conflicts with PhotoPost vBGallery! Quick fix: Disable the following PhotoPost vBGallery plugins:
Benefits of Facebook Connect
Facebook users will be able to receive Facebook notifications when:
Fetch data like name, location, profile picture and use it on your forums! (NOTE: Some data may not be available for some users) Automatically befriend user's friends If any of the user's friends are also registered on the forum, they will automatically be friends! Professional Install/Upgrade/Support Services Want this mod professionally installed? It's guaranteed to work on your forum! Download the archive and see INSTALL.html/UPGRADE.html for more details! Troubleshooting Server Requirements: PHP 5 If you get an error: Code:
The Facebook Connect cross-domain receiver URL http://www.SITEURL.com/xd_receiver.h...%220.699%22%7D must have the application's callback URL http://www.SITEURL.com/forums/ as a prefix. You can configure the callback URL in the application's settings. If you get a continues this means there is a javascript error. Make sure you've done all the template edits correctly (especially footer & navbar). Clear your cache and reload the page. If nothing happens when you click the Facebook Connect button make sure your callback url domain is the same as you forum domain (the one set in your forum settings) - more specifically make sure that there is a www (or isn't) in both domains. Many more features may be implemented in the future so keep checking for updates. Show Your Support

Hi, I've tested the functionality from the 'guest' side of things and everything looks great....
However, the existing member sign in with facebook doesnt seem to be working. it asks you to make a nickname, and i click the 'existing user' link.... sign in to the board and then I'm logged in. however there doesnt appear to be any integration at all. I dont get asked about stories when making a new thread / reply. Is it likely I have done something wrong, or is anyone else havingm this issue? |

Can a person upgrade directly from 2.0.2 to 2.0.4? Or do I have to upgrade to 2.0.3 first? Thanks!

I upgraded... It seems like this product has a lot of potential that hasn't been relized. It also has some short comings. Here's my laundry list of what i'd like to see.
1. Option to logout of facebook connect and associate the facebook connect login with a current vbulletin login. 2. There are lots of data that facebook can pass. I'd like to see an option to map this data. 3. Proxied email addresses can be requested from yahoo. I'd like to see this included in the dafult product. 4. Would like to be able to pull a person's facebook ID and map it to that. 5. Options to post to group threads would be nice. 6. Pull profile images and images from the image gallery into vbulletin and import/export images from vbulletin to facebook. |

ok. I think this is going to be a recurring request. Until this is sorted I will have to uninstall the application.
Currently, there is no way to associate EXISTING MEMBERS with a facebook account - according to the mod description on .org it seems as though it should be possible - but it's not. Steps to reproduce:- 1. Logout 2. Sign in with facebook connect 3. Dont choose a nickname, instead click on the existing user 4. Login to your board 5. We can now assume the vb account is facebook connected - NO ITS NOT Maybe this is only a bug / problem on my board. Can anyone confirm or deny the above to be true for them? @Uninstalled until resolved |

It's worked for three of my members who used it, and new members get new accounts. This isn't a "bug" other than it appears you created a new account rather than associating it with your current account when you first used it. |

I tried it on a test server and it works good for me. I connected with facebook and selected existing username. Upon posting a message for the first time, its asks if this is to be published onto facebook etc, and it works. Also, upon getting a private message or reply to threads, they show up in my facebook notifications. It will be going live next week so I will report back, but so far it all looks good. The only thing I see is missing is that users could do with some options to turn on/off the notifications. |
