Developer Last Online: Dec 2011
Staff Note: Moved to Graveyard - this will never work now that the old style facebook authentication is no longer available.
Facebook Connect This add-on allows your guests and existing users to login with their Facebook account through Facebook Connect. There is NO NEED to upgrade or reinstall if you already installed this mod for 3.7 Upgrade to 2.0.6 so that users with the new super long IDs will be able to login. This mod conflicts with PhotoPost vBGallery! Quick fix: Disable the following PhotoPost vBGallery plugins:
Benefits of Facebook Connect
Facebook users will be able to receive Facebook notifications when:
Fetch data like name, location, profile picture and use it on your forums! (NOTE: Some data may not be available for some users) Automatically befriend user's friends If any of the user's friends are also registered on the forum, they will automatically be friends! Professional Install/Upgrade/Support Services Want this mod professionally installed? It's guaranteed to work on your forum! Download the archive and see INSTALL.html/UPGRADE.html for more details! Troubleshooting Server Requirements: PHP 5 If you get an error: Code:
The Facebook Connect cross-domain receiver URL http://www.SITEURL.com/xd_receiver.h...%220.699%22%7D must have the application's callback URL http://www.SITEURL.com/forums/ as a prefix. You can configure the callback URL in the application's settings. If you get a continues this means there is a javascript error. Make sure you've done all the template edits correctly (especially footer & navbar). Clear your cache and reload the page. If nothing happens when you click the Facebook Connect button make sure your callback url domain is the same as you forum domain (the one set in your forum settings) - more specifically make sure that there is a www (or isn't) in both domains. Many more features may be implemented in the future so keep checking for updates. Show Your Support

I followed them word by word.
This is what I did * First took backup of DB, turned off the board. * Created a FB app Canvas Callback URL: http://forums.themobileninjas.com/ Connect URL: http://forums.themobileninjas.com Base Domain: forums.themobileninjas.com Canvas URL: http://apps.facebook.com/mobileninjas/ ( notice site open correctly while using this link FBML/iframe: iframe * Uploaded all files and correctly permission so php scripts are executable *Entered application API Key and Secret key * registered default templates and saved settings * edited required templates. I would appreciate if you could tell me what's wrong instead of telling it *Should* work. thanks in advance |

obviously, you didn't, otherwise it would work.
Contact the other to have it done professionally. I've done this on countless servers, countless setups, and as long as the requirements are met, and the instructions are followed, the system works. I've told you what the error means. If you can't understand the instructions, then you need to have it professionally installed. |

And what setting would cause this? I did a search and found no answer

@wolfstream, I installed this correctly, and as I said before everything worked perfectly upon installation.
However, after the initial connection from facebook, users are having trouble reconnecting at a later times. It acts like you are connecting and shows that your active on the forum but when you try to reply to a post it asks you to login. I uninstalled the mod and reinstalled. Once I reinstalled it started to work perfectly again, and same story as previous after a few hours. Also, should users be able to connect via the facebook canvas page as well as directly from the forum? It seems like all this trouble started when I tried to connect from the canvas page. Thanks. |

Riley, I checked out your canvas page. It seem like you have a typo in your footer file.

we will probably be paying to have this done this evening or tomorrow...
But my members main concern is will it be possible for their family or friends to see our website without registering or any info they share in our forums and so forth? I'd like to know before I get this professionally installed. Thanks. |

So, basically, if your permissions don't allow it now, they won't allow it after the plugin. |

Thanks so much.
So if I have it installed and my members use it on their FB, their family and friends on their lists won't see the threads and all on the FB wall or info. I hope Im explaining this right. I just want to confirm, we really want this hack and almost all of us use FB, obviously. |

THAT is incorrect
This plugin works like any other facebook app does. When action is made, it is posted on their wall, IF they've given permission to do so. That permission can be revoked in the facebook side of things. Now, the information passed on to facebook is very minimal, such as 'x user replied to x topic', or 'x user created x topic', and permission is asked every time before this is done. The end user (their relatives, friends, etc) still needs to come to the forum to view the topic and still needs to abide by forum permissions on said topic. |
