Live Topic 1.07b Demo (you must be logged in, and the topic must be "live")

Videos: 1.00b 1.06b

watch the damn videos... ^_^
Description:
This product is different from anything you have seen before, it raises the bar for forums. It will make your forums much more interactive, and also reduce server load.

Technical Details:
If a thread has been posted in X seconds then its now Live, if other users are viewing the Live topic and are on the last page they will experience a clean ajax experience while talking to other members. Once the thread is older than X seconds its no longer Live and it will now act like a normal thread. Also if a user edits one of their posts that's inside of the thread, it will be updated too so there is no longer a reason to ever have to refresh.

There is also logic for the viewer, the viewer of the thread has to be in an active state to see responses. An active user state is determined upon the users actions, if no actions were made in X seconds then the user is marked as inactive.

Also you may wonder why this could save your server bandwidth and CPU. If a user is refreshing to talk to another members the queries on a normal thread load are way more intense than the ajax call that this modification makes. So if you have 5 people talking to each other none of them have to refresh the page, all they are doing is simple page requests and one intense request when there has actual change.

You can test Live Topic with two users, you will see how amaizing this is... And probably spontaneously combust.

Just an idea (I haven't read this whole topic so pls don't shoot me if this has been suggested already) - how about when you're on the forum index, next to each forum name it tells you how many live topics are currently in each forum? That way ppl looking to have conversation wont have to click all over the forum trying to find threads that are currently live. Just an idea

I can confirm this bug....

It is happening pretty randomly but always involves threads that have more than 5 pages....

Can anyone else confirm this? It only seems to happen also once you sat in a thread for a while replying.

Since v1.0.7b it stopped working in our forum :-(. Earlier versions were working correctly (except too high load for our server). In forum it shows picture of live topic (so it means that mod is really enabled), but new posts are not appearing in threads, only after refresh of page. When I enable this mod, IE7 shows in every thread in Status Bar message "Error on page." Details are:

Line: 4910
Char: 148
Error: Unterminated string constant
Code: 0
URL: just URL of specific showthread.php page

In showthread.php line 4910 is last line of whole file where is only: ?>
When I disable mod, error message disappear. Any ideas to solve this issue please? vBulletin v3.8.2 (v3.8.1 was the same issue).

BUG REPORT

Your own posts will dissapear.... please can people test this and confirm so the author can fix this.

steps to reproduce:-

set your live posts per page to ten more than you show normally on thread pages. Eg. vB setting per page = 20..... live thread posts per page = 30.

Post a NEW thread.... get some other people in there too and just keep replying (DO NOT LEAVE THE PAGE). Once your screen overflows at 30 posts, you will see that your own replies do not show up at all - everyone else can see them and you can see other peoples, but you cant see new ones made by you.

Using the settings above this will happen at around post #32.

--------------------------------------------
Can others please confirm this bug???

Thanks

Rob

You aren't forced to register and file a bug report, just like he isn't forced to fix the bug.
