Topic (incl. Blog) of the Week/Fortnight/Month Nomination v1.636
Developer Last Online: Oct 2011
On my board (USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-D), we get many comments daily or weekly on many different topics and there are so many topics in the community that to be honest, we had a tough time remembering the topic being reviewed to offer a timely comment or response. Obviously, we needed a weekly/monthly topic nomination system with which we could get our community to commit to one topic as a group and then comment on it during the course of the week/month.
Cruising vB.org at warp speed, I failed to find a nomination system readily available. Hence, I quickly wrote this mod (on my way to the bridge). Acknowledgement: This release would not have been quickly possible without the existence of most hacks released at vB.org, especially the "Thank You" hack by Abe1, which provided this mod basis structure. Our thanks and all the merit goes to Abe1. A nice set of button and awards images have also been kindly provided by PrinceEdward to whom we also extend our thanks. Many constructive feedbacks have been given by those members at the vB.org community who downloaded the first releases of this Mod, the implementation of which has led to an improved version of the Mod. We extend our thanks to those members. What this mod does It adds a "Topic Of The Week/Month" nomination system to your community. What is Topic Of The Week/Month? Topic of the Week/Month is a contest that select posts on which your community can commit to as a group and then comment/discuss on them during the course of the selected week/month. Any listed topic (post, thread) is eligible for the Topic of the Week/Month selection. What determines a Topic Of The Week/Month? Topic Of The Week/Month is based on a simple nomination system. Throughout the selected forums, members with adequate permissions can nominate their favorite topic by clicking on the award nomination button below the post. The five topics with the most votes during the course of the week/month are automatically displayed on a nomination thread including a poll feature. At the end of the week/month, the first three topics with the most votes are the award winners of the contest. Features:

I will directly use your updated files for the next version of the mod. Supporters / CoAuthors Show Your Support

I'm getting the same error on both my sites. I get it when I open any thread on both sites - the error is:
Line: 5 Character: 1 Error: Syntax error Code: 0 This error only shows in IE and not Firefox. It's a "Topic of the month" error because when I disable the mod the error disappears! I've just downloaded the the latest ver 1.636 but same. rotor |

Nice mod, but after installing I have a major problem. I have turned it off but still was a problem so I disabled it in the Admin Products System.
Here is the error code I was getting: Code:
Warning: Unknown([path]/includes/functions_nominate_topic.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in [path]/includes/class_postbit.php(265) : eval()'d code on line 85 Fatal error: (null)() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/.../public_html/.../vbulletin/includes/functions_nominate_topic.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/.../public_html/.../vbulletin/includes/class_postbit.php(265) : eval()'d code on line 85 Thanks in advance for your help. OPPS, Never mind, missed an upload. And the answer was right there in the error code. Need to get more sleep before I go mess with the website. Sorry. |

Are you positive that the phrases are done properly? I can't seem to change the of The Week, October, 2008 in any way. Really destroys me.

This mod is compatible with VB 3.8-beta1:
I tested this mod with VB 3.8-beta1 without any problems. I changed the date on my computer to Nov. 1 to create the scenario for this mod to create a new nomination thread. It worked fine without any problems. Nominations are counted, nomination icons & buttons appear where applicable, PM message notifying winners is correct, thread title is correct, and Nominations Hall of Fame works fine (remember it's not an Awards History page - it shows top winners & top posts). Please read the following before posting messages next week about repeated thread titles when new monthly nomination threads are created. For some users (depending on your settings), you may have a repeated thread title for Nov., but this should only happen once (due to pre-1.636 default settings). Notes about next month's thread title: When Display Next Cycle Time On Contest Header in Topic Nominations settings is set to yes, the thread title shows 1 month ahead (so Oct. contest is titled Nov.), and when set to no, the thread title shows the same month as the contest (so Oct. contest is titled Oct.). Note that if you change that setting from yes to no then the contest thread title will repeat a month. So if you had it set to yes this month and changed it to no for next month, then for the November contest youll get a repeated title of Nov. Note that if you change that setting from no to yes then the contest thread title will skip a month. So if you had it set to no this month and changed it to yes for next month, then for the November contest youll get a skipped title of Dec. These notes apply to everyone for all versions, but in particular v1.636: If that setting was yes before installing v1.636, then the Topic Nomination will create another Nov. contest thread since v1.636 changed the default value of that setting from Yes to No. This repeated title should only happen once. If that setting was no before installing v1.636, then the contest thread should be Dec. |

As I imported the xml, the database got down.
The importing didn't show any result. My browser just did nothing then wait and show that he's busy. Why? |

I have installed this mod.
The Hall of Fame shows the winner of the Post of week and the second post winner. How can I make to show only the first winner? |

Just a question... Installed and after I upload everything the mod was working fine. When to change some of the setting in the Admincp and it just shows a blank page ?
Any idea as to what happened. Side navigation is still there but it is like the settings page has no settings... kind of weird since I am sure when I installed it I was able to set the settings. I reinstalled all the scripts and imported the product again but sill the same. |
